Greetings from North Carolina old postcard, found here, through Flickr's The Commons. I love old postcards (or any postcards for that matter) because I've started my own collection of postcards that I accumulated while traveling throughout Europe and all the postcards my friends have sent me from England, Taiwan, Vietnam, Philippines, and Italy.
I haven't been writing much about what has been going on in mine and Aaron's life lately, so here's a little photo dump of some goings ons that I never mentioned. Nothing very exciting happened recently, just some peaceful time at home with each other.
I know it doesn't look great, but it was pretty delicious.
Start of my many Dia de los Muertos skulls, which can be found here.
Aaron and I bought the new blu-ray of all Star Wars movies, still haven't finished watching all of them, too busy watching Alien and Predator movies.
Cute little cup Aaron and I got at the World Market
Adorable, I know.
Paper skeleton I was able to get at Party City for only $4.
Went to Target and picked up what was left of the Missoni collection, but I think they're pretty awesome. I love the color combinations.
Aaron and I went out to dinner and my dish was delicious (flat bread with a ton of herbs and spices with a cheese spread in the middle topped with tomatoes).
Zoo Pasta that Aaron and I got at the World Market, only bummer is that after making the pasta with pesto, you couldn't tell they were animal shapes at all. Bummed me out.
Aaron playing guitar as Hello Kitty (still dying from the hilarity).
Dyed my hair the other night a dark brown/red. Looks better in real life, trust me.
His and her sugar skulls. (Not finished yet, but soon to be up in the shop.)
This Singer is the best when my Brother goes bad.
So there's a brief recap of the past two weeks. All photos were taken with my phone, until I get a better camera I only really use my camera for taking photos for the shop. Off to an appointment now.
I am a HUGE Beatles fan. Like huge huge huge, as I'm sure millions could equally say. (But lets just say when I was in England I went to Abbey Road and shed a little tear at how happy I was that I was there.) When Aaron sent me music from a guy calling himself Mister Mustard and doing remixes of Beatles songs (the songs I know every note by heart of) I was totally not into even giving them a try. Until one day when I had my iTunes on shuffle and one of the remixes came on and even though at first it took a moment to get used to (trying sing along and the timing and notes and rhythm being just off since it was a remix) I started to really like them all. This is probably my favorite remix by Mister Mustard. If you love the Beatles as much as I do I suggest you just give it a try, even if you think it's going to be a total injustice to the glory that is the Beatles, trust me, it's pretty good.
I admit, I watched the movie way before I found out that it was based on a book, but for once I will say that I think the book was just as good as the film. Usually I tend to think that the book is always better, but the way Coraline was made into a movie has it's own life, while the book has it's own equal life as well.
Now the book does have difference when compared to the movie, but that is what gives a different (but equal) standing in my mind.
What is most interesting about this book is that it is intended for children, yet written in a way that adults can enjoy it as well, because I sure did. I think appealing to both groups is generally a very hard thing to achieve and few authors have accomplished such a feat, but Gaiman really does a supreme job with weaving a tale that is easily understood yet very interesting at the same time without being flat.
The illustrations in the book are another great feat. Dave McKean has a type of pen and ink style, a style that I've always loved, and the way he draws the beldam is just as frightening (if not a little more) than the movie it self. Little fact I found on wikipedia about McKean, he also has done CD cover artwork and apparently has done work for Alice Cooper, strange, no?
Anyway, although the book is dark (well dark-er for a children type book) it isn't something I would think too scary for children.
The movie is wonderful as well. A still shot film by Henry Selick, (know for also doing A Nightmare Before Christmas and James and the Giant Peach) it's quite an amazing adventure of a film.
I highly suggest you check both the book and film out.
After watching all of the Alien movies I thought (the obviously thought I'm sure everyone would have), "How wonderful would it be to own one of those as pets?!" So her is a list of my 5 reasons why I wish I had a pet Alien.
Me backpacking with my pet Alien.
PREDATORY CREATURE: Now first you are probably thinking, "But Victoria! Wouldn't this pet Alien attack you and use your body as a host to birth more Aliens!?," and to that comment I would say, "No way Jose!," because I'm envisioning this Alien-to-owner relationship to be built purely on love (see Alien: Resurrection to see what I mean). So while this creature is obviously a predator, he would be protecting ME and only ME. While some people might see this as a downer, I see this as a major advantage. See someone you don't like? Sick your Alien on them and they will no longer be a problem. It's like an attack dog, of huge proportion.
ACID BLOOD: What situation can you see for acid blood? SO MANY! You got a photo you want to hang, but no hammer to bang in that nail, call over your loyal Alien and have him snip out a little acid blood. Trying to dig a hole in your garden and don't have a shovel but don't wanna get your pretty little finger's dirty? Call over that Alien and spill some of that acid blood. Got fabric you want to cut a hole in but can't find your scissors? Acid blood it. There are many different situations where acid blood can come in handy. Just wait for the many opportunities!
BIG ALIEN HEADS: Big heads are not a negative thing at all, in fact they are very advantageous to any situation. Obviously the bigger the head, the better the brain capacity, meaning smart ass pet. My pet Alien could write my essays, solve long math problems, and perhaps attend classes for me in the future once it has ultimate training.
PLANTIGRADE & DIGITIGRADE: This fact applies to #3 of my list as well (attending classes as me) because when my pet Alien walks as a plantigrade organism (walking on two feet) it can walk side by side with me, like a good friend, while when it decides to go into digitigrade mode (walking on 4 legs) then it can take the position as a lovely pet at all times.
INNER MOUTH: Who doesn't love the little baby mouth inside the Alien's regular mouth? When you get bored with regular old Alien pet you can talk to the little alien who is one hundred times cuter.
Lately I've been watching a lot of Mad Men, one of my favorite shows, but ever since I found out they're on Netflix instant watch I decided to take a trip down memory lane and re-watch them all and it lead me to look up more and more pictures of vintage fashion from the 20's-60's time periods. I've come upon so many inspiring photos and decided I had to share because it's giving me so much inspiration lately. (Not that I have any desire to do anything with that inspiration, it's just given me another reason to be prowling around the internet for hours on end.)
COMPLETELY forget who this actress is (Betty Grable, I think??) and what movie this is from even though I've seen this movie! Agh so frustrating, but love the outfit!
